Adventure Background Part 1
For ages the people of the jungles have lived in concert with the benevolent spirits that watched from the Spirit World. The tribes offered tribute to the spirits, conducting many rituals in their day to day lives. The spirits had always been a large part of the community, though rarely were they seen or engaged with. Some areas of the jungle were more closely tied with the Spirit World and would allow shaman or spirit talkers to cross over and seek advice from the spirits that dwelt there. Certainly there were malevolent spirits who would bring bad luck, cause crops to fail, or bring heavy rains, but never had a spirit manifested with the express purpose of killing tribesmen. The tribes of the Yumemori everything contains a spiritual essence or kami. Every rock, every squirrel, every living and nonliving thing contains a kami. There is also a main kami for groups of things: for example, there is a kami within a rhino, and there is also a main kami residing over all the rhinos of the world. These kami live in the Spirit World and are the spiritual connection between the two worlds. The Spirit World in many ways mirrors the jungle world that the tribes live in. Shapes may be distorted; trees may grow at odd angles or even upside down; strange mists cover the ground and the sky is always over cast, sometimes with weird colors, but distances are the same, mountains, rivers, and jungles all exist in the same places. These shapes are the true quintessential forms of the kami that reside in the Spirit World. |
